Add an Instagram account

Before you can connect an Instagram account to Facelift, a few requirements must be met:

  • The Instagram account is linked to a Facebook page
    Help with joining

💡 For every Instagram account you want to connect, you absolutely need a Facebook page to which it is linked, even if you don't want to use it. So you may as well hide the page on the network itself.

If you have fulfilled all these requirements, you can now start the connection process in Facelift. For a smooth process, we recommend using the incognito mode of your browser.

  1. Make sure that you are logged in to Facebook with the profile that has admin rights on the page that is linked to the Instagram account

  2. In the settings, go to Profiles

  3. Go to Add Profiles and select Instagram

  4. You will now be redirected to Facebook - even if you want to connect an Instagram account.

  5. Confirm that you want to continue with the profile if it is the profile with admin rights for the Facebook page linked to Instagram. Otherwise, you can change the profile again here.

💡 If you want to connect another profile although you have already connected a profile, click on Edit Settings here to select the new profile.

  6. Now select the Instagram account you want to connect to Facelift.

  7. Now select the very Facebook page that is linked to the Instagram account you want to connect. Don't worry - this will not connect the Facebook page to Facelift!

  8. Now you can set the permissions. Check that all permissions are selected, even if they don't seem essential to you. Missing permissions can lead to errors in the connection later on.

  9. Click OK to return to the profile overview in Facelift.

You will now find the profile you have connected to in the profile overview.

💡 After adding an Instagram account, you have to update the access token of the linked Facebook Page if you are also managing this Facebook Page in Facelift.

Enable or disable Direct Messages (DMs)

To receive or to deactivate Direct Messages (DMs) in Facelift, you need to check the following settings for your profile(s) on your smartphone:

  • 📲 Select or deselect Allow access to messages in Settings > Privacy > Messages of your Instagram account in the app
    Help with setting this up

Once you have checked these settings, you'll need to refresh the access tokens, i.e. the connection of your Instagram accounts. You can read up on how this works here.

Manage and update access tokens

You will find the profile management options in the three-dot menu next to the respective profile. Here you can make profile settings, assign teams to the profile and delete the profile.

You will also find the option to refresh the connection. This is necessary if an access token has expired or if another person wants to set an access token so that the connection is still active if an access token becomes invalid.

👉 Refresh Connection

  1. Select Refresh Connection

  2. Log in with the profile that has admin rights on the page linked to Instagram or confirm the login

  3. If your Access Token has expired, you may have to repeat the same steps as when you first connected. You can find more about this at the top of this article

  4. Select the profile to be updated

  5. You have now successfully updated the profile
